everyday sacred saskatchewan
The overall experience of homesteaders on the land here in Saskatchewan was harsh. Women in particular struggled with isolation, and other challenges. This painting references my paternal grandmother who suffered a mental breakdown during her child rearing years. The image evokes the’ ‘cotton fluff of the mind’ during deep depression. My grandmother recovered, bore more children, including my father, and lived to be 93.
